summa, summa, summa, summa, summa, summa, summa, summa, summa, summa, summa, summa…

Is there anything better than the beginning of summer? Living in Central NY, summer is such a treasured time of the year.

sidenote: ‘treasured’ is such a grandmother word.

But there is no better way to describe the happiness that summer brings to those of us who have been trudging through 3 feet of snow for the past 6 months. Goodbye snow and rain, welcome sun and heat!

In honor of summer, take a look at my summer favorites.

Charcoal Grilling
Charcoal grilling is above and beyond the best type of grilling. Gas grills are convenient but nothing beats the smell of charcoal and the flavor that it adds to whatever you’re preparing. Check out the recipe for grilled shrimp below- it’s amazing.

Grilled Shrimp- Adapted from
{Serves 4}
2lbs of extra large shrimp
1 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon sliced, fresh garlic
2 teaspoons Old Bay Seasoning
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground, black pepper

Mix all ingredients in a bag or bowl and marinate for 20-30 minutes in the fridge. Get your grill to high heat (hot) and grill shrimp for 5-6 minutes- charring on each side. We leave the shrimp with their peel on for grilling and then peel individually at the table. They are delicious.

Okay, back to summer…

rose all day

Forget margaritas, rosé is my cocktail of choice for hot summer nights. I think rosé really gets a bad rep. It looks so similar to white zinfandel that people immediately think it’s sweet and gross- no offense WZ! Rosé is really refreshing and incorporates some of the color from the grape skins, but not enough to qualify it as a red wine. It can be slightly sweet but it’s more often dry, sometimes sparkling, and just plain delicious. Also, did you know that Brad and Angelina made their own rosé ?? More on rosé coming soon…

Local Farm Stands
Let me tell you, when I saw that Delaney’s (my local spot) was opening again for the season I was the happiest person alive. Delaney’s farm stand is one of my favorites in the greater Syracuse area. They have the freshest corn, delicious produce, and beautiful summer flowers. I’m lucky enough to have them up the street from our house, but they also have a stand at the Downtown Syracuse Farmer’s Market that runs on Tuesdays. Highly recommended.

SO, light your grill, grab your rosé and head to your local farm stand {maybe not in that order} to truly enjoy summer 2016.
